Emma Byer: Vintage Furniture
This week at The Old Cinema we have a trio of pieces from
Emma Byer’s new collection.
Born out of a love of vintage furniture and bright colours
Emma set up her own upcycling business in spring of 2012. Over the years, Emma has
photographed many ageing interiors and patinated surfaces, and now brings these
looks and interests together by resurfacing furniture with metal.
Emma uses warm toned metals such as brass, copper and bronze
which is coated and dripped on to furniture using a specialist technique and then aged to
produce beautiful, natural patinas. This form of abstract expression Creates bold colour block pieces
which look great in modern monochrome interiors.
Emma says, "I love the rich, natural colours and
patterns created by ageing metal. The subtle lustre and texture of the metal
surface looks magical in different lighting".
