Over the past couple of years our upcycled furniture has become increasingly popular and in response we have been searching for more upcyclers and their products to bring to The Old Cinema.  We have now launched Upcycled.co.uk, which features products and ideas sent to us from all over Europe via Twitter and Facebook.  We will collaborate with the best of these with the aim of offering a wide range of re-purposed products which are as environmentally friendly as they are aesthically beautiful!

Upcycled products are made from unwanted or scrap materials that have been restored or reinvented to create an object of greater worth.  This not only saves them from disposal but gives a new lease of life, often with a completely different function from their original use.

We are inviting designers, artists, shops, and students to submit their details and images to info@upcycled.co.uk  Here are a couple of our recent favourites:

Bath Tub Chaise by reestore.com

Spiral sphere light by re-wire.nl

Table by lexpott.nl

Clutch handbag
Washstand by woodpop.co.uk

You can follow UpcycledUpdate on Twitter and find on Facebook

See you in the shop.

We're delighted to be featured in Issue 4 of Recognise - a new lifestyle magazine promoting environmental awareness and ethical living.  Many thanks to Editor Cleo Davis for selecting The Old Cinema as a great place to buy upcycled furniture!  The current issue also includes an exclusive interview with Coco Sumner and all the usual lovely gadgets, celebrities, food, and fashion.  Find out more here!

If you visit The Old Cinema between now and 22nd September you will find one corner of the shop dedicated to fabulous quilts, cushions, shawls, clothing and jewellery from Rajasthan, India.

To celebrate the exhibition we are having an opening evening tomorrow Thursday 16th from 5-8pm.  Come and join us for drinks and indian snacks and check out the gorgeous textiles.

For those of you who are regulars in the shop, you are most likely aware of the recycled plank top furniture we stock. Some things you may not know about these pieces is that they are made right here in England (Eastbourne, East Sussex to be exact), and they can be tailored to suit your needs.

Our plank top tables are available in four standard sizes: 4'6", 5', 5'6" and 6 feet with a standard width of 81cm, but we can have them made up to virtually any width or length up to ten feet, for those weekly feasts I know you all indulge in. They also look great with these Belgian industrial style chairs!

Our sideboards and bakers tables have a few more options available. You can have them made up to any width you desire, and we can even create cabinet space below with doors on either side. You can specify how many drawers you would like, and how wide you would like them to be. You can choose to have either the thick bakers top (as seen in the first photo) or the thinner pot server style as shown here.

We have a catalog available here in the shop with a multitude of options for you to choose from, so don't be afraid to ask! We would be more than happy to get you a quote.

Some other pieces we have made right here in West London are these pine and rivited steel frame banks of drawers, and the dual level trolley shown below. These are made with 1/4 inch steel, so they will last forever!

See you in the shop,

-Adam

The Old Cinema would like to welcome new dealer Paul Donaldson, who specializes in fine glass dating from the 18th century to the 1930's. His pieces are located in the new cabinet area on the ground floor. Be sure to stop by and have a look, as many of the pieces are very rare and truly stunning.

We also have some new artwork in the shop. Famie Fairnie is a recent graduate of Central Saint Martins and has a few of her screen prints up around the shop. They are proving to be rather popular and don't last long on the walls!

We also have this awesome artwork by Paige Chou, which can only truly be appreciated when seen up close. It reminds me very much of Hieronymous Boschs' artwork, which is full of small details to make up a greater image. "Epic" is the word that comes to mind.

One final note, the boss has gone back to the USA to collect more vintage goodies, only this time they will be bringing back twice as much as before! It should arrive here by mid October, fingers crossed!

Hope to see you in the shop soon.

-Adam
